State of Affairs

Well, it's been a looong time since my last post - almost a year. We have some great times and so not so great times since I've been gone.

Obviously, the best of times was winning both the SEC and BCS National Championships. I was so proud of the guys and how well they fought through adversity. They were truly a team of destiny and refused to be denied their goals.

Let's fast forward to this season. It started cautiously and guarded. I was prepared for 2-3 losses this year after having to replace so many starters. I was very worried about the middle of the defensive line after Mt. Cody left. I was also concerned with the QB situation. Greg is a great guy, but did he have the football skills to take us on his back when the defense struggled?

I have to admit after great wins against Penn State and then Florida, I started to drink the crimson Kool-Aid. We looked pretty good and the defense looked like it hadn't lost much from last year. The offense was clicking. We attended the Duke game in Durham and it was a serious butt-kicking from the opening return. We looked strong and prepared. I was concerned by our lack of pass rush, but it was Marcel's first game back so I let it slide.

Next up for us was the South Carolina game. We also attended that game with my 8 year old step-daughter in tow. What an absolute embarrassment! That was not Crimson Tide football. We never tried to establish the run game, we made seemingly ever mistake that was possible for a team to make, and worst of all we looked uninspired and flat. I don't expect that from a Coach Saban team. If we don't have the athletes that's one thing, but to not be prepared to play - that is something completely different.

For brevity's sake I'll skip ahead to today. We are sitting here after another poor performance against LSU. We are welcoming Mississippi State into our house today. How will we respond? Will this be 2007 all over again? Or, will this team pick themselves up by their cahones, show some leadership and pride and play Alabama Football for the rest of this season?

I really hope to see the latter. If not, we could be watching the same season next year.
